چکیده
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the commonest cause of infertility, is a heterogeneous syndrome with a significant alteration in autonomic modulation in the form of increased adrenergic drive and a depressed vagal activity. The various co-morbidities associated with PCOS such as obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hyperandrogenism and altered thyroid profile, are known to cause significant alteration in autonomic dysfunctions. Assessment of autonomic functions has proved to be a sensitive tool in diagnosing the early features of CV dysfunction in PCOS. When detected early, it enables an early intervention to yield a better cardiovascular health to these patients. The simplest approach of restoring the sympathovagal balance would be the life style modifications in the form of regular exercise and practice of yoga. Regular exercise decreases adiposity and improves the sensitivity of insulin in the peripheral tissues and yoga improves general cardiovascular health. Thus, these alternative therapies can supplement the medical therapy advocated to these patients and would lead to better outcome in both reproductive and cardiovascular health.

The Extract of Crocus sativus and Its Constituent Safranal, Affect Serum Levels of Endothelin and Total Protein in Sensitized Guinea Pigs
Objective(s): The effect of the extract of Crocus sativus and its constituent, safranal on inflammatory markers in sensitized guinea pigs was examined. Materials and Methods: Ovalbumin (OA) sensitized guinea pigs were given drinking water alone (group S), or drinking water containing three concentrations of safranal, three concentrations of extract and one concentration of dexamethasone, (n...
متن کاملmiR-33-5p Regulates CREB to Induce Morphine State-dependent Memory in Rats: Interaction with µ Opioid Receptor
The aim of the present study was to examine the hypothesis that miR-33-5p attenuates morphine state-dependent (StD) memory via the µ opioid receptor by regulating cyclic AMP response element-binding protein (CREB). The effects of post-training morphine and morphine StD memory and their interaction with pre-test naloxone were evaluated using a single-trial inhibitory avoidance paradigm. Then, th...
متن کاملRole of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha and gamma in antiangiogenic effect of pomegranate peel extract
Objective(s): Herbal medicines are promising cancer preventive candidates. It has been shown that Punica granatum L. could inhibit angiogenesis and tumor invasion. In this study, we investigated whether the anti-angiogenic effect of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) is partly attributable to Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) activation in the Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell...
متن کاملStandardized Cannabis sativa extract attenuates tau and stathmin gene expression in the melanoma cell line
Objective(s): Metastasis is the main cause of death in patients with melanoma. Cannabis-based medicines are effective adjunctive drugs in cancer patients. Tau and Stathmin proteins are the key proteins in cancer metastasis. Here we have investigated the effect of a standardized Cannabis sativa extract on cell migration and Tau and Stathmin gene expression in the melanoma cell line. Materials an...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Diosgenin and Exercise Training on Biochemical and ECG Alteration in Isoproterenol- Induced Myocardial Infarction in Rats
Objective(s) Several studies have reported improved response of exercised hearts to myocardial infarction (MI). This study was aimed to evaluate the preventive role of treadmill exercise and diosgenin on cardiac marker enzymes, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), total antioxidant status (TAS), lipids, and electrocardiographic (ECG) patterns in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardi...
متن کاملThe cytotoxic effect of memantine and its effect on cytoskeletal proteins expression in metastatic breast cancer cell line
Objective(s):Breast cancer is an important leading cause of death from cancer. Stathmin and tau proteins are regulators of cell motility, and their overexpression is associated with the progression and bad prognosis of breast cancer. Memantine, an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, is the potential inhibitor of tau protein in neurons. This study determines the effect of memantine ...
